The sale of Pani Puri in Nepal’s Kathmandu has been prohibited due to an increase in cholera cases in the Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC). On Saturday, LMC officials decided to halt the selling of Pani Puri throughout the city. According to PTI, officials announced that cholera bacteria were discovered in the water used in Pani Puri.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population, seven more individuals in the Kathmandu Valley have tested positive for cholera. Chumanlal Dash, director of the Health Ministry’s Epidemiology and Disease Control Division, stated that five of the seven cases have been identified in Kathmandu Metropolis, with one each in Chandragiri Municipality and Budhanilkantha Municipality.
The country’s overall number of cholera patients has now risen to 12. As a result, in order to manipulate the spread, the metropolis has made plans to prohibit the sale of Pani Puri in congested areas and corridors. According to officials, there is an increase in the risk of cholera spreading in the Valley.
According to reports, the new infections are currently being treated at Teku’s Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Diseases Hospital. Authorities have previously stated that five cases of cholera were discovered in various parts of the capital city. The two infected individuals have already been treated and released.
Meanwhile, amid an increase in cholera cases, Nepal’s Health ministry and Population has prompted people to visit their nearest health facility as soon as they notice any cholera symptoms. The ministry has also asked everyone to be on the lookout for diarrhoea, cholera, and other water-borne diseases, which are on the rise, particularly during the summer and rainy seasons.
