On Saturday, a senior US Congressional delegation met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv, promising to continue to help Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
The team, led by Representative Adam Smith of the House Armed Services Committee, is the latest in a long line of high-profile American visits to Ukraine.
“The United States, together along with allies and partners around the world, has stood with Ukraine by offering economic, military, and humanitarian aid,” the delegation said in a message.
“We will continue to seek effective methods to help President Zelensky and the Ukrainian people as they continue their courageous stand,” they continued.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced on Wednesday that the US would deliver four more high mobility artillery rocket systems to Ukraine, bringing the total number of such systems provided to the country to 16.
The delegation’s statement on Saturday made no mention of arms transfers. Smith was also quoted as saying to the US-backed Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that Washington and its allies were prepared to provide over more multiple launch rocket systems.
