Russia’s President Vladimir Putin is “running out of steam” in Ukraine, and his forces may have to “stop” in the coming weeks, according to the chief of Britain’s overseas intelligence organisation MI6. Richard Moore, speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on Thursday, stated that Russia has lost half of its ability to spy in Europe. His assertions were based on reports of the expulsion of more than 400 Russian intelligence officers from a number of European locations, as well as the arrest of many deep-cover spies disguised as citizens.

“In Ukraine, I believe he made a strategic mistake. It is obviously not over. He has definitely made some incremental gains in recent weeks and months, as have Russian forces, but only in small numbers. We’re only talking about a few kilometres. Nothing is left after they take a town. It has been destroyed “Mr Moore stated

“And I believe they are about to run out of steam. I believe our conclusion is that the Russians will progressively struggle to supply manpower in the coming weeks. They will have to pause in some fashion, giving Ukrainians opportunities to strike back. Their morale is still good. They are beginning to receive an increasing amount of high-quality armament “he said

The MI6 chief also denied rumours that Mr Putin has cancer, Parkinson’s disease, or some other mysterious sickness. CIA Director William Burns agreed, saying at the same gathering that Putin is “much too healthy.” Mr. Burns, on the other hand, stressed that his remarks were “not a formal intelligence judgement,” but rather a personal view.
