The Ukrainian air force asserted that it had shot down a drone that had lost control over Kyiv after numerous explosions jolted the city on Thursday.

The explosions came after a string of nocturnal Russian assaults between Wednesday and Thursday, which reverberated in Kyiv for roughly 15 to 20 minutes.

The air force reported that a Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial device lost control during a planned flight in the Kyiv region at around 8:00 pm (1700 GMT), adding that it was investigating the reason of a “likely” technical issue.

The Kyiv municipal military administration stated that “air defence is at work” as AFP journalists witnessed an air defence attempt to shoot down a drone at the time of the blasts.

Just as the military administration of Kyiv city declared the air raid alarm to be over, journalists noticed a cloud of black smoke in the air.

Firefighters put out a fire on the first level of a four-story shopping centre in the Solomyansky neighbourhood, according to Vitali Klitschko, the mayor of Kiev.

No reported casualties were associated with the incident, which consumed 50 square metres (538 square feet) and caused some minor surface damage, according to Klitschko.
