Because of security concerns, the United States has advised its people to avoid the Serena Hotel in Kabul and its environs. According to an Agence France-Presse storey, the UK has also advised citizens to avoid staying in hotels in Afghanistan. The warning comes just days after dozens of people were slain in an ISIS-claimed mosque bombing in Afghanistan.

The US State Department advised “U.S. citizens who are at or near the Serena Hotel to leave immediately,” citing “security risks” in the area.

“You are recommended not to remain in hotels, particularly in Kabul (such as the Serena Hotel),” the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom said.

Meanwhile, the Taliban announced on Sunday that the United States has agreed to give humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, which is on the verge of collapse. The US, on the other hand, has refused to recognise the country’s new Taliban leadership, they claim.

The announcement was made at the conclusion of the first direct talks between the former adversaries since the haphazard departure of US forces in late August.

The US statement was less specific, just stating that the two parties “addressed the United States’ provision of significant humanitarian aid, directly to the Afghan people.”

The Taliban stated the Doha talks “went well,” with Washington agreeing not to tie humanitarian help to formal Taliban recognition.
