The first black female blind barrister in Britain is a British lawyer who made history. After five years of study at the University of Law in London, Jessikah Inaba, 23, graduated last week. She completed her full course using Braille, and according to The Times UK, she gives credit to her friends and teachers for filling in the blanks.
Ms. Inaba added in a statement to the source, “I am confident in my ability to perform this work successfully, and it will get simpler as more people who are like me complete the necessary training. I am conscious of the fact that I am inspiring people who are going through similar things.”

The 23-year-old also disclosed that she was the first black student who was blind to attend the University of Law in the heart of London. One of her two important study materials, which she could now read on her computer, took the university seven months to procure, while the other took five months.
According to Wales Online, Ms. Inaba also stated that she uses a small electronic device in court that has a Braille keyboard with one key for each dot and a little screen where symbols appear. This enables her to read and edit with ease while yet having her ears free for listening.
Justice McGowan, the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple’s treasurer, said: “A tremendous accomplishment is receiving a bar call. It is absolutely extraordinary to be called to the Bar while blind. She has proven to be a remarkable success because of her dedication and determination.”
Jessikah Inaba was born with bilateral microphthalmia, a disorder that causes kids to have smaller-than-normal eyes, according to Wales Online, and as a result, she is blind. In Surrey, she attended both senior institutions and neighbourhood public schools.
After working so hard for them, she claimed she now proudly wears her gown and wig. Now that applications are open in January of next year, Ms. Inaba plans to submit an application for pupillage, which is where recently trained barristers receive their initial placement in chambers.
