According to filings in a Delaware court on Thursday, billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is collecting documents from advertising technology firms as part of his effort to learn more about bot and spam accounts on Twitter.

Twitter has sued Tesla’s CEO, who has accused Twitter of concealing information about how it measures the amount of bots on its site, for seeking to breach the $44 billion agreement. The trial is set on October 17.

Musk’s lawyers have issued subpoenas to Integral Ad Science (IAS) and DoubleVerify for any records or correspondence relating to their role in examining accounts or participation in any audit of Twitter’s user base.

IAS and DoubleVerify, both based in New York, use technology to independently verify that digital ads are being viewed by real individuals. Advertisers utilise the services to verify that the adverts they pay for are seen by potential customers rather than automated bots.

Twitter, IAS, and DoubleVerify did not immediately respond to calls for comment.

In response to a tweet from a user who questioned how Twitter checks its service and also linked to a Reuters piece about Musk targeting ad firms, Musk tweeted: “Those are the questions that Twitter is doing everything imaginable to avoid answering…”

Musk said in a countersuit filed earlier this month that Twitter’s monetizable daily active users are 65 million lower than the corporation has claimed. Twitter has stated that it stands by its statements.
