Sen. Bernie Sanders, a former two-time candidate for president, declared on Tuesday that he supports President Biden’s re-election campaign and has decided against making a third effort for the presidency, according to reports in the media cited by Fox News.

According to Fox News, Biden said earlier in the day that he will be running for a second term despite polls suggesting that most Americans, even Democrats, don’t want him to do so.

Fox News quoted Sanders as saying that he would “do everything I can to see the president is reelected” and expressing concern about the possibility of the former president Trump or another Republican winning.

The last thing our nation needs is someone like Donald Trump or another right-wing populist who will try to sabotage American democracy or restrict a woman’s right to choose, or who will ignore the problem of gun violence, racism, misogyny, or homophobia, according to reports from Sanders. Therefore, I’m willing to do my part to ensure that the President is reelected.

On election day, Sanders predicted that Biden would be the Democratic nominee. He stated that he believed it was the progressive movement’s responsibility to “ensure that [Biden] stands up and fights for the working class of this country and does not take anything for granted.”

The socialist Sanders, a longtime member of the House and Senate and runner-up for the Democratic presidential nominations in 2016 and 2020, has gained a sizable following among the progressive wing of the Democratic Party since stepping onto the national stage, according to Fox News.

Given his age, the 81-year-old is probably never going to run for president again, but he said it was “a wonderful privilege” to have run at the time.
