Exit polls released on Sunday, following the conclusion of voting in an Italian national election, indicated that a right-wing coalition formed by Giorgia Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party appeared likely to win a majority in the following parliament.

According to a RAI exit poll, the coalition of conservative parties, which also includes the League and Forza Italia of Silvio Berlusconi, gained between 41 and 45% of the vote, which was sufficient to ensure control of both houses of parliament.

By awarding them an excessive number of seats in relation to their vote total, Italy’s electoral legislation favours organisations that are successful in forging pre-election pacts. By early Monday, complete findings should be available.
