Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, responded to remarks made by U.S. President Joe Biden by asserting that Israel is a sovereign nation that does not make choices based on external pressure.

Earlier, Biden expressed his wish that Netanyahu would back away from the judicial reforms that had sparked unrest in Israel and a political dilemma for the country’s leadership.

“Israel is a sovereign nation that makes decisions based on the will of its people and not on pressure from outside sources, including the closest of allies.”

He claimed that his government sought to implement reforms “via broad consensus.”
