Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi described India and Iran’s relations as “friendly and cordial,” adding that the Chabahar-Central Asia transit route might help both countries create the foundations for their future cooperation.

Using the current capabilities in the oil and gas industry, transportation, particularly the Chabahar-Central Asia transit route, and cooperation on regional and international issues that the two countries are concerned about and have common positions, can provide a suitable ground for improving the level of relations and expanding grounds for cooperation between the two countries, according to a press release from the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Raisi spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on improving ties with the country as one of Iran’s top foreign policy priorities.

In reference to historical, cultural, and civilizational similarities between the two nations, he added, “Indian independent figures, like Mahatma Gandhi, who have stood against arrogance are always honoured by the Iranian nation.”

President Raisi emphasised that “cruel sanctions could not halt the progress of the Iranian nation” in reference to Iran’s advancements in a number of scientific and industrial domains.

In the side meeting, PM Modi emphasised the essential role and importance of Chabahar Port in the regional flow of goods. The growth of this port, he said, “would promote the economic development of the countries in the region.”

The Indian Prime Minister also advocated for the continuance of Tehran-Delhi international and regional collaboration in this area while mentioning the two nations’ shared views on the events in Afghanistan.
