Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan called on the country’s military establishment to “examine its policies” on Thursday, saying he would rather die than accept the Shehbaz Sharif regime.
This warning comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief is locked in a struggle with the government coalition, which he claims came to power as a consequence of a US-backed conspiracy against him.

Speaking at a conference in Islamabad, the PTI president stated that political stability is a necessity for economic progress, and neither can be achieved without free and fair elections.

“Today, I’d like to ask the neutrals: do you know where the country is headed?” The publication Dawn quoted Khan. “How can the country and economy progress when you have no idea what will happen in the next 2-3 months?” Imran Khan interrogated.

The former prime minister, who has lost favour with the Pakistan army, stated that “proper decisions” on the country’s current political predicament must be made immediately.

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Asif Ali Zardari advised that there was still time to “examine policy.” Imran told Dawn that decisions made behind “closed doors” were not in Pakistan’s best interests.

This warning to the country’s military establishment comes just one day after Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan declared that the country is “descending into a banana republic.” This statement came amid the uproar over the detention of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill.

Gill was arrested by police on August 9 after making contentious remarks about the Pakistan army on television that the country’s media regulator judged “extremely hostile and seditious.”

Gill was tortured in police detention, according to Imran Khan’s party, and his life is still in danger.

“Descending into a banana republic. Our barbarism will astound the civilised world. The worst thing is that an easy victim has been chosen to make an example of through torture and without a fair trial “Imran Khan posted a video of Gill being transported to the hospital.

“Meanwhile, the likes of NS, Maryam, MFR, AZ, who have all repeatedly and in the worst conceivable way assaulted State institutions by nasty and targeted statements against them, got away with not even a suggestion of a consequence,” he added in another tweet.
