On the final day of his Middle East tour, US President Joe Biden inadvertently mentioned the “selfishness” of American troops. On Saturday, Mr. Biden gave prepared remarks to Gulf Cooperation Council leaders in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

“For the first time since 9/11, an American President is visiting the region without American military involved in battle – in a combat operation in the region.

We will always remember the bravery, selfishness, selflessness, and sacrifices of the Americans who served, particularly my son, Major Beau Biden.” Joe Biden stated.

According to the New York Post, Mr. Biden’s blunder comes only days after he wrongly swore to “keep alive the truth and honour of the Holocaust.” However, he instantly corrected himself and read the correct line: “horror of the Holocaust.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Biden gave Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) a fist bump on Friday in an unusual turn of events. Notably, President Trump has already chastised MBS for his role in the death of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi. As a result, the photograph of US President Barack Obama fist bumping in front of the Saudi king’s royal palace in Jeddah became the defining moment of his visit.

Critics pounced on Mr. Biden’s fist-bump in Jeddah. Mr Khashoggi’s girlfriend, Hatice Cengiz, took to Twitter to express her thoughts on the late journalist’s reaction to the fist bump. “Is this the restitution you promised for my murder? MBS’s next victims’ blood is on your hands, “She sent out a tweet.

Separately, according to AFP, Fred Ryan, the publisher and CEO of The Washington Post, which hired Mr Khashoggi, called Mr Biden’s fist bump with MBS “shameful.” “The fist bump between President Biden and Mohammed bin Salman was worse than a handshake – it was disgraceful,” he continued. “It portrayed a degree of closeness and warmth that offers to MBS the undeserved atonement he has been sorely seeking,” Mr Ryan continued.
