Imran Khan's party would be led by Shah Mahmood Qureshi if he is disqualified: Report

Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), declared that Shah Mahmood Qureshi, PTI Vice Chairman, would take over as party leader in the event that Khan was found to be ineligible by a court, according to Pakistani news outlet Geo News.

Imran Khan stated, “If I am disqualified, Shah Mahmood Qureshi will lead the party,” at a meeting with journalists and attorneys on Saturday at his Zaman Park mansion in Lahore.

The declaration was made at a time when the PTI leader has been accused of everything from corruption to terrorism since being removed from office in April of last year, according to Geo News.

Imran Khan was detained on May 9 in connection with the 190 million pound Al-Qadir Trust case by Rangers agents in accordance with arrest orders issued by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The Supreme Court ruled that the PTI chief’s arrest was unlawful, leading to his release.

After Imran Khan was taken into custody on May 9, there were violent demonstrations all over the nation, with supporters looting and setting public and defence facilities on fire.

The powerful National Security Committee (NSC), which is made up of senior civilian and military leadership, threatened to prosecute rioters in accordance with applicable laws, including the Army Act, according to Geo News.

In response to the widespread resignation of party leaders due to the vandalism on May 9, Mr. Khan stated that things would soon change.

He continued, “I’ll provide a tremendous surprise in the next several days.

Imran Khan claimed that although some party officials were being forced to resign, others had been exposed.

According to Geo News, PTI will win the upcoming general elections despite the party leaders’ defections. Khan described the youth as his party’s most valuable asset and stated that they had a claim to the party ticket.

In order to determine the level of support for his party among the general public, he also asked for a referendum.
