Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Monday accused Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government of being responsible for the terrorist attack in Bannu, according to Geo News.

He said that attacks by “security forces of a “friendly” Afghan government” across the border had gone unaddressed by the “imported government.”

In a statement posted to his official Twitter account, Khan said that “apart from destroying our economy, this imported government has failed to address the 50% surge in terrorism in Pakistan with incidences from Chaman to Swat to Lakki Marwat to Bannu.”

Four police officers were killed and several others were injured in an overnight terrorist attack on the Bargai Police Station in the Lakki Marwat area.

Terrorists launched an armed assault on the police station from two directions. According to Geo News, a fierce exchange of fire occurred between the police and the outlaws, killing four police officers and injuring many more.

After the assault, the attackers fled. Police have launched a search for the saboteurs in the area.

The worst part is that this rising terrorist threat and attacks from across our Western border are finding no space in the discourse of this government of a cabal of crooks, “while our soldiers, police [and] local [people] are giving daily sacrifices with their lives,” the former prime minister wrote in reference to the incident.

According to Geo News, he continued by claiming that the NRO II and its maintenance are the only things the government, which is governed by the Pakistan Democratic Movement, is concerned in.

The only option to stabilise the economy through political stabilisation, he continued, “yet despite the economy failing, they are scared of holding elections.”

A spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, Mohammad Ali Saif, revealed that important negotiations between Pakistani officials and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leadership are taking place in Afghanistan, according to Geo News.

In an effort to end a standoff with the TTP, which had taken control of a counterterrorism centre in Pakistan’s northwest the day before and was holding numerous security employees hostage, Pakistani officials started negotiations.

“We are in talks with the top Pakistani Taliban officials in Afghanistan,” Saif stated.

If the armed guys do not surrender, the spokesperson threatened harsh action.

The report said that in recent months there has been an increase in terrorist assaults across the province. According to official statistics, at least 118 terrorist attacks were reported in KP between the middle of August and the latter week of November.

Throughout the KP, terror acts claimed the lives of at least 26 police officers, 12 members of other law enforcement organisations, and 17 ordinary citizens. In addition, according to Geo News, these attacks injured 18 police officers, 10 civilians, and 37 members of the legal system.
