On Friday, a special repatriation flight from Kabul arrived, carrying roughly 110 Afghan citizens from the Hindu and Sikh faiths.

The government of India has chartered a flight out of Kabul.

According to a statement released by India World Forum, the flight is bringing back stranded Indian nationals as well as distraught Afghan citizens from the Hindu and Sikh communities, as well as spouses of Indian citizens.

The three Sri Guru Granth Sahib from historical Afghan Gurdwaras, as well as Hindu religious scriptures such as Ramanaya, Mahabharat, and Bhagavad Gita from Kabul’s old 5th century Asamai Mandir, are being airlifted to India.

The Afghan people would be rehabilitated by Sobti Foundation after they arrive, according to the India World Forum.

“It is also important to note that the family of Mahram Ali, a local security guard who was slain during the terror assault in Gurdwara Guru Har Rai, Shor Bazar, Kabul, is being assisted and will be rehabilitated by Sobti Foundation,” the statement added.

The Hindu sacred scriptures will travel to Asamai Mandir in Faridabad, while the Sri Guru Granth Sahib will travel to Gurdwara Guru Arjan Dev Ji in Mahavir Nagar.

Since August, when Kabul fell to Taliban fighters, India has evacuated 565 stranded persons from Afghanistan, the government announced in the Lok Sabha last week.

Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan stated authorities from the Ministry of External Affairs were in contact with the Indians who had been left behind in response to a query from Congress MP Hibi Eden. However, the statement did not specify whether some Afghans were among the flown individuals.
