KARACHI: While the world is united in addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, religious discrimination remains a top priority for Pakistan in this global crisis.
In the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak, thousands of poor people gathered in Karachi at Rehrri Ghoth to obtain food supplies and the regular necessities. Those who belong to the Hindu and Christian minorities community were asked to return, Authorities are not giving food supplies to them in Pakistan, saying they are intended for the Muslims only.
Sindh authorities issued an order to distribute ration lockdown through administration and NGOs to daily wage workers and laborers. The distribution of food substances was managed by the local government in coordination with the district government. According to Hindus, they were not eligible for food materials as it was intended only for Muslims. There were no screening procedures for nearly 3,000 people who had gathered to receive rations.
In Pakistan, the total number of positive COVID-19 cases has risen to 2112 with the death of 27 victims. For Hindus, No food distribution activity in Liyari, Sachal Ghoth and other areas of Karachi as well as in Sindh.
A political activist, Dr. Amjad Ayub Mirza, appealed to PM Modi to intervene without hesitation to avoid a humanitarian crisis in Sindh. About half a million Hindus live in Pakistan’s Sindh province.
