According to the US State Department, US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met on Thursday to discuss global issues such as Afghanistan.

The state department said in a statement that Blinken and Guterres also discussed their shared concern about the worsening conflict in northern Ethiopia, including the escalating violence and its impact on humanitarian operations.

Secretary Blinken expressed the United States’ appreciation for the Secretary-efforts General’s to address the humanitarian crisis and praised the efforts of the UN Country Team in Ethiopia, which continues to work under difficult conditions.

According to the statement, “the Secretary and Secretary-General Guterres discussed ways to increase international collaboration to end present hostilities, advance discussions toward a lasting ceasefire, and deliver life-saving assistance.”
