The UN Security Council stated that the travel ban on prominent members of Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government, including First Deputy Prime Minister Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, has been extended for another 90 days.

According to TOLO News, the UNSC said on Friday that the ban, which went into effect on Wednesday, will extend until March 21, 2022.

Aside from Baradar, 14 other Taliban members, including Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, are on the no-fly list.

“The travel prohibition exemption is only for travel essential for participation in peace and stability discussions in a variety of countries,” the UNSC said in its release, according to TOLO News.

“Individual journeys will be determined by the location of the peace talks. Furthermore, the Committee has decided to grant a limited asset freeze exemption to facilitate exempted travel.”

The Taliban-led government applauded the UNSC’s decision, but demanded that the names of its leaders be removed from UN and US sanctions lists.

“Based on the Doha Agreement, it is important to remove the names of Islamic Emirate officials from US and UN blacklists,” stated Inamullah Samangani, the Islamic Emirate’s deputy spokesman.
