Hundreds of families of victims on board flight MU5735 remained close as recovery personnel searched through the mud at the China Eastern Airlines disaster site, waiting for more information.

Qin Haitao, a resident of Hunan Province, was one of them.

Shujun, Qin’s daughter, was a passenger on the flight that crashed in a rural portion of Guangxi on Monday, en route from Kunming, in the southwest, to Guangzhou, in the southeast.

Shujun, a migrant worker from Guangzhou, had travelled to Kunming with her mother to see a specialised doctor whose reputation she had heard was excellent.

“We couldn’t believe it and didn’t dare to say anything for fear of upsetting my wife,” Qin said of the moment he learned of the crash on Monday.

“Our eyes were so full of tears that we couldn’t cry. We were aware of the reality, but we kept it hidden from her for a night, a half-day, and a night.”

Qin claims he received no official confirmation of his daughter’s predicament at first. His brother-in-law, on the other hand, rushed to Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport on Monday night, where the flight was set to arrive. He was given a list of the passengers’ names, including Shujun’s.

Qin, his son, and two other people travelled to Wuzhou on Tuesday and inspected the crash scene the next day with the help of China Eastern workers and volunteers.

He remarked, choking back tears, “It’s really painful.” “Now all we have is sorrow… Every day, we are bereft of hope.”

375 family members of the 132 persons on board flight MU5735 had visited the disaster scene by 10 a.m. on Friday, according to officials.

Human bodies, fragments of passengers’ personal property, and plane debris have all been discovered by rescue teams.

Qin described the visit to the crash site as “many family members lighting incense.”

“I prayed and wrote my daughter’s name in the supplied space. “Dad came to see you, my kid,” I informed her, because it was her birthday on the same day. ‘Happy birthday,’ says the sender.”

Qin has mostly stayed at his hotel with his son, Shujun’s older brother and sole sibling, since that visit to the place.

Shujun has a teenage daughter that she is responsible for.

“At this time, there are no demands,” Qin stated.

“Our only plea is that you locate and return my daughter’s remains as quickly as possible.”
