The new COVID-19 variant ‘Omicron’ has raised concern among governments around the world, and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson indicated on Saturday that the new strain could spread among those who have been double-vaccinated.

“I must emphasise that, as with every novel variety, there are many things we can’t know at this moment. Our scientists, on the other hand, are learning more every hour. And it appears that Omicron spreads quickly, even among persons who have been twice vaccinated “During a news conference, Johnson added.

The WHO has identified the new South African strain as a cause for concern due to its high number of mutations (32), which could make it more transmissible and lethal. Omicron, the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet, is the name given to it by the WHO.
