Manila (Philippines) is the country’s capital. According to Philippine media, 169 people have died as a result of Typhoon Rai (also known as Odette), which made landfall in the Philippines last week. At least 50 people are still missing.
The Central Visayas region had the most fatalities (129), followed by Western Visayas with 22 deaths, according to The Manila Bulletin on Sunday, quoting Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Col. Rhoderick Augustus Alba.
Typhoon-related deaths have also been reported in the Philippine areas of Caraga (10), Northern Mindanao (7), and Zamboanga (7), according to the newspaper (1). At least 50 people have yet to be found.
More than 180,800 individuals have been displaced, with power disruptions reported in over 3,000 different places around the Philippines.
More than 332,000 people had to be evacuated after Rai hit the Philippines on December 16, according to the country’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). Only four of the 31 deaths recorded by the NDRRMC were confirmed to be typhoon-related.
