Residents of Shanghai who were caged into their homes by Communist officials as part of China’s harsh Zero Covid policy have staged a revolt, according to a video released on social media, according to the Daily Mail.

Metal gates placed along a residential street to keep homeowners indoors have been demolished, according to the video.

The footage from Pudong’s financial sector was apparently labelled “Actions speak louder than words” and was shared via a state-approved messaging service.

Covid cases continue to rise in China as the governing Communist bureaucracy tries to keep to its zero covid policy aimed at eliminating the virus, despite specialists’ warnings that the Omicron form makes it hard to contain instances with lockdowns, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite weeks of the world’s toughest lockdown measures, Shanghai registered almost 15,000 cases on Thursday, accounting for the vast bulk of cases nationally.

As the huge capital of Beijing prepares to fall into lockdown, millions more Chinese citizens are expected to face stringent Covid restrictions.

On Friday, President Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to a zero Covid policy, placing the country at odds with the rest of the globe. While many countries are loosening restrictions and attempting to live with the virus, China is keeping its international borders mostly closed and banning entire cities to all but essential travel.
