On Sunday, US  President Joe Biden said the virtual summit he organized with the leaders of India, Japan, and Australia last week went extremely well.

At the first summit of a group known as the Quad on Friday, Biden and the other leaders pledged to work to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific zone, as well as to cooperate on maritime, cyber, and economic security, all of which are critical issues for the four democracies in the face of China’s challenges.

Biden met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Quadrilateral Coalition’s first meeting on Friday. Modi and Biden met for the first time since the American president took office in January.

President Biden greeted Prime Minister Modi, saying, “It’s nice to see you… it’s great to see you.”

Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, said, “It’s nice to be surrounded by friends. I applaud President Biden for taking this move. Our democratic principles and commitment to a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific unite us. Vaccines, climate change, and new technology are all on our agenda today, making the Quad a global force for good.”

Apart from Modi and Biden, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga were also present at the Quad’s virtual summit.
