The invocation of the 25th amendment to oust President Donald Trump was rejected by the US Vice President, Mike Pence.
Pence urged Congress to concentrate on Joe Biden’s transition and to avoid impeachment.
Democrat Jamie Raskin of Maryland brought forward the resolution. It called on Pence to immediately use his powers to convene and mobilise the principal officers of the executive departments in the Cabinet under Section 4 of the 25th amendment and to declare what is obvious to a horrified nation.
Pence wrote to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, “With just eight days left in the President’s term, you and the Democratic Caucus are making demands that the Parliament and I invoke the 25th Amendment.
Hours before the House was to vote on a measure calling on him to invoke the 25th amendment, Pence said, ‘I do not believe that such a course of action is in our nation’s best interest or compatible with our Constitution.
