The country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 hit eastern Turkey on Sunday, while the interior minister said there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 15.95 km (9.91 miles), AFAD said, adding that the epicentre of the earthquake was the province of Elazig, which in January was hit by a 6.8 quake, killing 39 people.

“So far, there is nothing negative. All of our teams are continuing their on-the-ground examinations,” Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter.

The Turkish media stated that the earthquake was also felt in the provinces of Malatya, Diyarbakir, and Sanliurfa.
