Britney Spears announced her engagement to boyfriend Sam Asghari on Sunday with an ecstatic Instagram image showing a diamond ring with the word “lioness” engraved on it.
The news comes only days after her father filed a petition to remove the 13-year court conservatorship over the singer’s life and finances.
“I can’t (expletive) believe it!” she wrote.

Asghari shared a snapshot of Spears flashing her ring finger to the camera of his own.
The four-carat diamond ring is carved inside the band with the word “lioness,” which is his nickname for her, according to the business Forever Diamonds NY.

During an impassioned petition to end the conservatorship, the singer told a judge in June that she wanted to marry Asghari and have a child with him, but that she hadn’t been allowed to remove an intrauterine device for birth control or even drive with him.
Spears is legally allowed to marry, but as with all important life decisions, the conservatorship must approve it.
