Witnesses said there were victims in an explosion in an Afghan mosque

Witnesses say numerous people were killed or injured when a massive explosion erupted in a mosque in northern Afghanistan on Friday.

During the weekly Friday prayer service, a Shiite mosque in Kunduz province was blown up. When they heard the explosion, witnesses reported they were praying.

The cause for this was not obvious at first.

The local Islamic State affiliate, known as the Islamic State in Khorasan, has been posing a rising danger to the Taliban leadership. IS terrorists have up their attacks on its opponents, including two deadly bombings in Kabul.

IS has also launched attacks against Afghanistan’s religious minorities.

Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in mid-August, terrorist attacks by ISIL-affiliated militants have increased. Terrorist attacks have become more common, raising the possibility of a larger conflict between the two factions.

A blast at a mosque in Kabul killed at least 12 people and injured 32 others earlier on Sunday. The incident occurred in a packed area of Kabul’s Eid Gah Mosque.
