According to diplomats, the UN Security Council will convene on Monday to discuss the humanitarian catastrophe in Ukraine created by Russia’s invasion.

The 15 members of the council will meet behind closed doors after the public session to discuss a possible draught resolution, according to a diplomat who spoke on the condition of anonymity to AFP.

Mexico and France suggested this conference, as part of a text that demands for a halt to hostilities in Ukraine, unrestricted humanitarian supplies, and civilian protection.

However, impediments have arisen, including a warning from the US that it will not endorse such a text unless it specifically indicates that Russia is to blame for the humanitarian situation, according to another diplomat.

France had hoped for a vote on Tuesday, but it was not held.

According to diplomats, France has adjusted its position in light of US criticism and is no longer pressing for a vote as swiftly as it once was.

Because Russia has veto power on the Security Council, any draught resolution that attacks Russia by name is doomed.
