According to Iraqi and US security authorities, at least six missiles were fired Sunday at the US embassy in Irbil, Iraq’s northern capital, with several missiles striking the structure. According to the governor, missiles were also fired at daybreak at Arbil, the seat of autonomous Kurdistan in northern Iraq. The missiles were fired from Iran, according to a US official.

According to the authority, no casualties have been reported and information is still being gathered. The raid comes after two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard were killed in an Israeli strike near Damascus, Syria. The act was fiercely condemned by Iran’s foreign ministry, which pledged retaliation.

There were no initial reports of deaths from the incident, which happened just after midnight and caused material damage in the region, according to Iraqi security sources. According to the rules, they talked on the condition of anonymity. Without going into detail, one of the authorities stated that the ballistic missiles were launched from Iran. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said on Sunday that Iraqi media acknowledged the bombings in Irbil but did not say where they came from.

The strike comes as talks in Vienna over Iran’s shattered nuclear deal have come to a halt due to Russian demands for penalties on Moscow for its war in Ukraine.
