After a man tried to cut it during excavation work in the eastern Czech city of Ostrava, a World War II bomb went off early Friday, killing him and injuring another.

On Twitter, police stated that the dead guy most likely mistook the explosives for an old sewage line.

They said that the explosion went off after he chopped up the metal with an angle grinder.

“We can confirm it was an airborne bomb explosion,” said Eva Michalikova, a police spokeswoman.

A 49-year-old man died, while a 31-year-old male received a minor head injury, according to local media.

In the northeastern Czech Republic, where the Red Army advanced in the spring of 1945, World War II munitions and explosives are frequently found.
