According to Chinese official media, the second “black box” has been retrieved from the disaster of a China Eastern Boeing 737-800 last week, which killed all 132 persons on board (March 27).

The recorder, an orange cylinder, was discovered 1.5 metres (5 feet) below by firefighters participating in the search, according to state television CCTV. It was the second black box, according to experts.

After locating the cockpit voice recorder four days ago, searchers turned their attention to the flight data recorder. Investigators should be able to use the two recorders to figure out what caused the jet to crash into a forested mountainside in southern China after plummeting from 29,000 feet (8,800 metres).
