A mob of factory workers and others lynched a Sri Lankan export manager of a plant and burned his body, leading to the arrest of 124 persons in Sialkot so far.

Police in Sialkot apprehended five more suspects in the lynching of Sri Lankan manufacturing manager Diyawadanage Don Nandasri Priyantha on Saturday night, according to Geo News.

“Police will bring all of the arrested individuals to court to seek their physical remand for questioning in connection with the murder,” police officials stated. “A total of 124 people have been arrested so far as part of the horrible murder investigation, including 13 primary suspects.”

The event occurred in the Wazirabad Road area of Karachi. Private industrial workers attacked a factory’s Sri Lankan export manager, according to the Dawn newspaper, and burned his body after he was killed. A huge number of men was seen congregating at the spot in several films that circulated on the internet.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa expressed his sadness over the lynching of a resident of his country in Pakistan on Saturday. He was “shocked” to see “extremist mobs in Pakistan” attack Priyantha Diyawadana. In a tweet, Rajapaksha expressed his condolences to his wife and family.

According to multiple studies by human rights organisations, Pakistan has registered hundreds of blasphemy prosecutions since 1987, the majority of which are against religious minorities such as Hindus, Christians, Shia, and Ahmadiya Muslims. In Pakistan, a huge number of blasphemy cases have yet to be resolved.
