Fears of invasion have prompted governments to urge citizens to leave Ukraine

Fearing a Russian invasion of Ukraine, numerous countries are advising their people to flee the country and reducing diplomatic staff.

The United States, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Canada, Norway, Estonia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Australia, Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates are among the countries that have called on their citizens to leave Ukraine.

– Travel is discouraged 

France has recommended against travelling to northern and eastern Ukraine’s border areas, but has not told its nationals to leave.

Romania, which shares a border with Ukraine, has advised its citizens to avoid travelling there and to “re-evaluate the need to stay” if they are already there.

– The diplomatic mission has been reduced –

Moscow has called back some of its diplomats, citing “provocations” as a reason.

The US has ordered the withdrawal of the majority of its diplomatic personnel in Kyiv, claiming that a Russian onslaught might start “any day now.” In the western city of Lviv, Washington will have a consulate presence.

Non-essential diplomatic personnel in Kyiv should leave the country and work from abroad, according to European Union agencies.

Israel has evacuated the families of embassy diplomats and staff, and Romania has withdrew non-essential people from its mission in Kyiv.

Flights have been cancelled.

KLM, a Dutch airline, stated on Saturday that flights to Ukraine will be suspended until further notice.

However, despite the threat of a Russian invasion, Ukraine’s infrastructure ministry announced on Sunday that the country would keep its airspace open.
