According to media reports, at least 11 passengers were murdered after their minibus was hit by a train at an unmanned level crossing in Bangladesh’s Chittagong area.

According to the Dhaka Tribune, the tragedy occurred on Friday in Mirsharai Upazila when a minivan carrying kids and teachers from a coaching centre was hit by a Dhaka-bound Provati Express train.

According to Kabir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mirsharai police station, seven students of almost the same age and four teachers were among the victims.

“The express collided with the microbus, pulling it down the railway track for many hundred metres. Eleven microbus passengers were killed on the spot, while the remaining five were severely injured “he stated

According to Anisur Rahman, deputy director of the Chittagong Divisional Office of Fire Service, the victims’ remains were discovered from the scene and handed over to family members later that evening.

“The bodies of the victims were recovered from the scene by the firefighters. The injured were brought to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.”
