Elon Musk’s legal team is seeking that Twitter turn over the names of personnel in charge of calculating what percentage of the social media site’s users are bot and spam accounts, according to a source familiar with the situation.

Twitter bot and spam accounts have emerged as a key issue in the court battle over whether Musk, Tesla’s CEO, must complete his $44 billion takeover of the social media firm.

Musk announced last month that he was abandoning the agreement due to Twitter withholding information regarding these accounts. Twitter sued Musk in order to finalise the transaction, and the company has stated that the issue has no influence on the agreement with Musk.

A trial in Delaware is planned for October 17.

According to a source, Musk’s lawyers urged the judge supervising the case in a letter filed under secret on Tuesday to compel Twitter to send over the employee names so that the defence team may interview them.

Musk’s lawyers made the request, according to Bloomberg.

Musk’s counsel refused to comment. Twitter did not react right away to a request for comment.
